CJI Ranjan Gogoi launched the Assamese translation of a book ‘Courts of India, Past and Present’ at a function in Guwahati. Gogoi will retire on November 18. Some of the colleagues of the CJI, who were present on the occasion, heaped praises on Gogoi and the Supreme Court.
Govert of Assam launched a project for the transformation of the Inland Water Transport system on the National Waterways in the state. The project will develop an efficient river transport system which would be safe & secure for the large volume of passenger and cargo carried by vessels by IWT as well as by private boat owners and operators.
Dev Sarma had earlier worked in the NRC directorate. He involved in the initial works of NRC which started in 2013. Later he moved out of NRC directorate in 2016. The NRC coordinator is the commissioner level post. Sarma was working as secretary in department of Finance and Urban development, government of Assam.
Congress leader Ramesh said “If the BJP government can scrap Article 370, which gave special provisions to Jammu and Kashmir, there is no guarantee that it will not remove Article 371 terming it as temporary.”
Patwary hoped that with the visit of the Malaysian delegation, potentialities for a closer relationship shall blossom fully in the future. He highlighted the strengths and opportunities of the State and called upon the Malaysian delegation to invest in sectors like tea, hydrocarbons, transportation, food processing, bamboo, agar and infrastructure and skill development.
Speaking in Guwahati at the 8th Rutum Kamgo Memorial Lecture on the topic ‘Abrogation of Article 370 and 35A: A step towards national integration’, he said that history has proved that the journey of the separate status provided under the said Article has been towards separatism and not integration.
“We will not accept the Citizenship Amendment bill. The Centre must not consider the northeast as a dumping ground for illegal immigrants. The bill is unconstitutional, illegal and anti-indigenous. We will not accept it under any circumstance," said Aasu chief adviser Samujjal Bhattacharyya.
Today's signing marks the launch of the second phase of Assam Project for Forest and Biodiversity Conservation (APFBC), which aims to reforest an additional 12,000 hectares of land, scale up efforts in biodiversity conservation and skill the members of 135 additional communities in different trades.
