Chhatwal who will personally supervise the bidding on Friday between IHCL and rival ITC Hotels said the Mansingh and Taj are the right fit.
“We can say that this position is equivalent to that of a legal head for WhatsApp in India,” a person familiar with the development told ET.
The event also witnessed a product showcase that highlighted the technology applications introduced by OYO to automate customers, hotel partners and employee touch points.
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) decided to auction the hotel after IHCL’s 33-year lease ended in 2011, though it continued to operate it on temporary lease extensions.
Starting its operations with four properties in London that would offer about 80 rooms, OYO plans to take the number to more than 5,000 rooms by 2020.
The property spread across 45 acres is currently under minor renovation to comply with all the ITC's exemplary sustainability practises, it added.
IHCL also operates Taj Dubai in downtown Business Bay and has two new hotels, Taj Jumeirah Lake Towers and Taj Exotica Resort & Spa, The Palm, Dubai opening in late 2018 and 2019 respectively.
