Government defers auction of two coal blocks being eyed by Hindalco, Vedanta, JSW Steel

NEW DELHI: The government has deferred the auction of two coal mines in Jharkhand which were being eyed by Hindalco, Vedanta, Jindal Steel & Power, Steel Authority of India and JSW Steel.

The coal ministry issued a notification late on Tuesday withdrawing Parbatpur Central coal mine from the third tranche of the auction and postponing bidding for the Chitarpur coal block.

Bidding for the Chitarpur block was scheduled on Wednesday, while Parbatpur Central was to be auctioned on Thursday.

“Bidders may kindly note that the Parbatpur Central Coal Mine is withdrawn from the process of auction…Consequent to hearing dated 11.08.2015 in W.P.(C) 7630/2015 (Kolkata Glass and Ceramics Private Limited vs UOI) before Hon’ble High Court of Delhi, the e-auction of Chitarpur Coal Mine shall not be held on 12.08.2015. The date of e-auction of Chitarpur Coal Mine will be intimated later,” the ministry said in the notice.
