French glassmaker Saint-Gobain unveils investments at Chennai facility

Saint-Gobain's global revenues crossed Euro 40.8 billion in 2017. It is present in in 67 countries, runs 945 production sites, and employs over 179,000 employees.

The investment takes the total money pumped into its World Glass Complex in the facility up to Rs 3000 crore, according to a press release from the company today.
CHENNAI:The Indian subsidiary of French glassmaker Saint-Gobain announced investments of Rs 1,200 crore at its Chennai plant towards building a third glass float, a magnetron coater and glass solutions line and a rain-harvesting facility . The investment takes the total money pumped into its World Glass Complex in the facility up to Rs 3000 crore, according to a press release from the company today.

The facilities unveiled on Monday were to meet demand from both domestic and internationa markets. "Since our entry into India in 1996, we have invested about Rs.7500 crores. Today, we have built a pan-India manufacturing presence and have developed strong market positions in all our businesses. About 95 % of our local sales are of products manufactured at our plants in India.” said Mr. Anand Y Mahajan, Chairman, Saint-Gobain India Private Limited.

"The Brand recall of Saint-Gobain in India is as good as that in France. Indeed, we are as much an Indian Company as we are French.” said Pierre-André de CHALENDAR, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Compagnie de Saint-Gobain, France, who was in Chennai on Monday for the plant inauguration.

“We strongly believe in India’s future and have consistently invested ahead of time in Capacity, Capability, Technology and Innovation. The World Glass Complex at Sriperumbudur, Saint-Gobain’s largest investment in a single location worldwide is set to welcome the largest and most advanced glass manufacturing plant in India along with advanced magnetron coater and glass solutions line. This new expansion will accelerate Saint-Gobain’s momentum in realizing the Vision of being the Clear Choice for Glass Solutions in India and the adjoining region.” Said B Santhanam, Managing Director for Saint-Gobain India.

Saint-Gobain's global revenues crossed Euro 40.8 billion in 2017. It is present in in 67 countries, runs 945 production sites, and employs over 179,000 employees. Its thriving intellectual property creation department files around 400 new patents every year.
