Much before we landed in Goa, we met many of the ad folks at Chatrapatti Shivaji Airport in Mumbai. Two familiar faces we saw there were Ravi Deshpande, chairman and CCO, Contract Advertising and Govind Pandey, president, McCann Erickson. The decision of these two agencies to not go to the festival this year was much publicized, so what made them change their mind, we ask? “Its for the larger good of the industry.

Any work given to Shashi he does it most sincerely and it is because of his efforts that we are here,” said Pandey. Deshpande was part of the jury for print and outdoors and he was quite satisfied with the work that has entered the festival this year.

“And nobody says no to go Goa,” he said in a lighter vein. While McCann has a sizable representation of about 30-40 people from across the country, Contract is a smaller party with few individuals of the agency making an appearance. We figured out that at the end of the day all said and done, Goafest is still matter of pride for the ads folks of India.

As adworld gets together for Goafest, they definitely don’t want to leave their worries behind, or so it seems. One of the speakers at the industry conclave, Sanjay Behl, president, brand & marketing was sent three emails from the organizing committee regarding the topic of the session.

“The first one was about preparing advertising for the future, the second was about what agencies can learn from their counterparts in services and the third was ‘Increasing agencies’ remuneration”, he said. Well, being a client himself, he neatly sidestepped the issue and went on to elaborate how agencies can learn from the services industry.
