Centaur Hotel in Delhi to operate till 2032

The aviation ministry’s letter, seen by ET, said the area, where hotel is located, would be required for expansion between 2026 and 2034 and allows its operation till 2032. The letter also adds that the earlier order that had asked Air India to clear the hotel and vacate that area will, therefore, be treated as withdrawn.

NEW DELHI: The iconic Centaur Hotel near Delhi Airport, which was planned to be demolished by March next year to make way for the expansion at the airport has got a fresh lease of life after the government extended operations of the till 2032.

The aviation ministry’s letter, seen by ET, said the area, where hotel is located, would be required for expansion between 2026 and 2034 and allows its operation till 2032.

“AAI/DIAL requires this land for aeronautical purpose in phase 4 development as per Master Plan submitted by DIAL (Delhi International Airport Ltd) in 2016 wherein the development is proposed during 2026-2034. Therefore, HCI (Hotel Corporation of India) may use the land/ structure up to expiry of the existing period i.e. on 31.03.2032 only to vacate the land positively upon expiry of existing lease period,” read the missive from the aviation ministry.

The letter also adds that the earlier order that had asked Air India to clear the hotel and vacate that area will, therefore, be treated as withdrawn.

An email sent to DIAL — the company that runs Delhi Airport — did not elicit any response till the time of going to print. A spokesperson said that the company would not comment on the story.
