    WelcomHotel Amritsar is Punjab's first LEED Platinum certified hotel: ITC Hotels

    ITC Hotels said Welcomhotel Amritsar received the rating for energy efficiency by using 33% less energy, reducing the water consumption by 46%, developing a rain water harvesting capacity of 30% of the peak rainfall, and reducing the cooling demand with over 75% of roof area covered with high solar reflective index tiles besides other sustainable initiatives.

    The brand Welcomhotel currently has a portfolio of 15 hotels with over 1800 keys and 16 hotels in the pipeline, adding over 1600 keys.
    NEW DELHI: ITC Hotels said on Monday its Welcomhotel Amritsar is now Punjab’s ‘First LEED certified hotel’ under the aegis of USGBC (US Green Building Council). The chain said, spread across eight acres, Welcomhotel Amritsar has received a platinum rating under LEED 2011 for India NC (New Construction) programme.

    Nakul Anand, executive director at ITC said ITC Hotels is committed to sustainable business practices.     ITC Hotels has stated its ITC Gardenia hotel in Bengaluru is the first LEED platinum certified hotel in Asia Pacific (2009) while ITC Maurya was the first hotel in the world to be awarded the LEED platinum rating in the existing building category. ITC Grand Chola was the largest LEED certified hotel in 2012.

    ITC Hotels currently owns and manages 15 hotels under the Welcomhotel brand. The brand Welcomhotel currently has a portfolio of 15 hotels with over 1800 keys and
    16 hotels in the pipeline, adding over 1600 keys.

    The chain said various parameters ranging from energy efficiency, water efficiency to sustainable site development, indoor environmental quality and materials and resources are verified for the LEED Platinum rating.
