While market leader IndiGo was the first to offer discounts, which ended Sunday, other airlines are expected to follow suit.

GoAir and Vistara on Monday announced discounts on flight tickets for travel during the monsoon months of July, August and September.

While market leader IndiGo was the first to offer discounts, which ended Sunday, other airlines are expected to follow suit.

In a news release, GoAir said it was offering discounted fares starting at as low as ₹1,769 on tickets booked from June 18 to 23. The travel period under this offer is from July 1 to September 30. It is offering an additional 10% discount to those booking on or the Go-Air Mobile App, on entering the promo code ‘GOAIR10’.

Vistara announced a 48-hour ‘Grand Vistara Monsoon Sale’ covering the entire network and all three classes of travel, with all-in fares starting at ₹1,299 for the economy class, ₹1,999 for premium economy and ₹4,999 for the business class. Bookings can be made on June 18-19 for travel between July 3 and September 26, the airline said in a news release.

Vistara said also it had expanded its network with the addition of 62 new flights to and from Mumbai and Delhi.

“These new flights represent an over 50% increase in the size of the airline’s network, with 170 flights a day across 24 destinations operated by a fleet of 23 Airbus A320 and 6 Boeing 737-800NG aircraft,” the release added.

The increase in Vistara’s network has come as the airline got some slots that were vacated by Jet Airways at Delhi and Mumbai airports.

“These new flights also help us meet peak-season travel demand amid the prevailing capacity crunch in the market, especially in the full-service space,” the news release said, quoting Sanjiv Kapoor, the chief strategy & commercial officer at Vistara.
