Jason Kothari
Jason Kothari says that his assembling the best team while he was the CEO, including talented writers, producers and a major studio, and perseverance were key.
Jason Kothari is a person of varying interests – there is technology, real estate, comic books, movies and now, a place where the latter two intersect. The turnaround specialist, former CEO of Housing.com and FreeCharge and former CSIO of Snapdeal, started his career as co-founder and CEO of Valiant Entertainment, a US based superhero entertainment company and now, one of their and also his favourite characters from the comic books is making it to the big screen early next year.

Kothari shares, “I was given Bloodshot issue number one comic book as a present by my father when I was 12-years-old and couldn’t stop reading it and rereading it. It was action-packed and the character was so cool to me then, I used to imagine the story as a movie and even now can visualise comic pages from memory. So, of course, as clichéd as it sounds, it literally is a dream come true to not only see the character on the big screen, but to have played a key role in making that happen.”

But making it happen doesn’t happen overnight. There’s a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes; Kothari says that his assembling the best team while he was the CEO, including talented writers, producers and a major studio, and perseverance were key. “It’s taken eight years. In the meantime, there have been changes in management at the studio, multiple script rewrites, casting changes, and of course the production of the movie once it was greenlit. But the team has done a great job of persisting through all of this.” Kothari adds that Hollywood star Vin Diesel was his choice from day one for playing Bloodshot and he’s thrilled it worked out. “Everything is possible when it’s approached in a thoughtful, methodical and patient way, as anything big takes time to build.”

As far as mixing corporate with creative, Kothari says that having creative work or hobbies that contrast with business work can be a fun outlet and give a different perspective but that it is a personal choice. “Creative projects require a different approach and thought process to business. For example, effective business requires objectivity, structure and process, while creativity is often emotion-driven and occurs in unpredictable ways that cannot be forced or manufactured. Creative projects can give a different type of satisfaction than business projects, so I find it enriching to have both,” he says.
