After 38 years, Kapil Dev gets his Rs 2.5 lakh PF dues

Kapil Dev had worked with the Delhi company as a liaisoning officer.
GHAZIABAD: Kapil Dev won accolades for leading India to World Cup glory in 1983. But a "trophy" he should have claimed three years before that had been lying unattended for 38 years.

The Modi Spinning and Weaving Mills has recently cleared the provident fund (PF) amount of Rs 2.75 lakh due to the former cricketer since 1980. Kapil had worked with the company's Delhi branch between 1979 and 1980, said Rajendra Sharma, deputy company secretary of the mill.

"The mill was shut down in 1994, though the company still exists today. It (the PF due to Kapil) came to our notice last year while going through old records. We immediately approached the cricketer and requested him to get his dues cleared. He was surprised, but on our request, he completed all the required formalities. The money was subsequently transferred to his bank account," Sharma said.

The amount was transferred to Kapil's account in January this year. Kapil could not be contacted for his comments. However, his office informed he was "too busy" with some event and would not available for a comment before Monday.

Sharma said Kapil had worked with the Delhi company as a liaisoning officer and was a "great source of inspiration" for aspiring cricketers. "The motive of the company behind his hiring was to achieve this purpose only," he added.
