The Apple iPad Pro isn’t for the average buyer looking for a laptop replacement. It is for those looking for the definitive tablet that can put a laptop out of work.

    Starts at Rs 71,900
    Key highlight: Fast processor

For the last couple of years, Apple has been pushing iPad as a replacement for entry-level Windows laptops. There is no doubt the iPad is the best-selling tablet in the world, yet the proverbial last mile has proven to be the toughest when it comes to replacing the laptop. That gap might be covered now, as the new iPad Pro, armed with the Magic Keyboard, does everything remarkably well.

The new Pro comes in two variants, 11 inch and 12.9 inch, and starts at Rs 71,900. Throw in the Magic Keyboard — which starts at Rs 27,900 — and you will have to shell out a cool Rs 1 lakh to get the best out of the iPad Pro.

Now, that is a lot of money for a tablet. But the iPad Pro is more than a tablet and a lot of it is down to the keyboard.

For the first time, Apple has given trackpad support in an iPad. The Magic Keyboard has a floating design with angle adjustment, which makes it really easy to use. You can use it as a laptop (literally) for hours and not feel the fatigue usually associated with long use of a normal laptop. The keyboard takes some getting used to.

The iPad Pro has a Liquid Retina display with Apple’s ProMotion 120hz tech and the colours are vibrant and dynamic. Watching multimedia content on this is unparalleled. The iPad Pro’s display stands out. The screen, however, is quite prone to smudges and it does get greasy.

With iPadOS, Apple has upped the ante on multitasking using features such as Split View and some useful widgets on the home screen. The new Pro is powered by the A12Z bionic processor that handles all tasks thrown at it. iPad Pro comes with a dual-camera setup — 12MP wide lens and 10MP ultra-wide lens — that captures sharp images with a lot of detail.

You can buy the device without the keyboard as well. It is a useful machine for creative professionals on the go. You can edit photos & videos, write, watch movies and play games with comfort and ease.

In Apple’s world, Pro means more power, more features — and it also means a lot of money. The iPad Pro isn’t for the average buyer looking for a laptop replacement. It is for those looking for the definitive tablet that can put a laptop out of work.
