India is proud to have a handful of Good Samaritans, as they always are the first ones to help their country when it needs them the most. Actress Priyanka Chopra, Shraddha Kapoor, actor Akshay Kumar and sprinter Hima Das are living proof of that.

The 37-year-old 'Quantico' actress took to Twitter to expressed how devastated she was to watch Assam suffer. She wrote, "Extremely devasted by all the news coming in from #Assam and other parts of India. It’s heartbreaking to read about the displacement and loss of life. My prayers with those affected."

Actresses Shraddha Kapoor and Dia Mirza put up Instagram stories to express grief on the flood-struck state's condition.

On Wednesday, the 51-year old National Award-winning actor, who was the only Indian to feature Forbes in 2019's highest-paid celebrities list, took to Twitter to announce that he plans to donate Rs 1 crore each to the Kaziranga Park rescue and Chief Minister's Relief Fund for Assam. He also urged his fans to contribute to the cause.

Assam-based athlete Das shared a glimpse of her flood-stricken neighbourhood, and appealed big corporates and followers to contribute to the CM's Relief Fund.

The 19-year-old runner, who won the third Women's 200m Gold at Kladno Memorial Athletics Meet in Czech Republic, further confirmed that she has donated half of her month's pay to the relief fund.

Meanwhile, 'English Vinglish' actor Adil Hussain and Jyoti Kapur Das, director of award-winning short film 'Chutney', also requested their fans to donate generously.

For people who are willing to join the cause, mobile payment wallet Patym has opened contributions for #AssamFloodRelief on the app.

While 15 people have been killed in floods and landslides and over 46 lakh have been affected in Assam, 24 deaths have also been reported from north Bihar, which is also facing a serious flood situation, with water levels of rivers in the area continuing to rise.

An official of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority said that 4,175 villages with 46.28 lakh people have been affected due to the floods as of Monday afternoon, while close to 90,000 hectare of agricultural land is inundated.

Over 10 lakh animals have also been affected. Almost 90 per cent of the Kaziranga National Park has been submerged, and authorities are taking various measures, including speed restrictions on NH 37 which touches the park, to save animals as they head to higher grounds.
