This Diwali, Anand Mahindra (L) is following Marie Kondo's cleaning instructions.
With the new year just a few months away, it looks like the Kondo effect is having a resurgence. And Anand Mahindra is also a fan of Marie Kondo. In a recent Twitter post, the chairman of the Mahindra group, said that he was in the middle of a “Marie Kondo-style cleaning out of old ‘stuff’” session and while cleaning he came across his mother’s scrapbook which included various newspaper clippings, including one from the 1960s that was a harsh reminder of segregation in the US.

The newspaper clipping reported how five Indians along with their American friends were heading to a beach for a picnic. Only to be turned away from not one, but two beaches. They were told that no coloured or Asian people were allowed on the beaches. Mahindra added that this happened “not that long ago.”

On a happier note, Mahindra also found another newspaper clipping that his mother had saved. A fun article that reported how crowds of people turned up to watch Hatayogi Laxman walk on water. The article said the yogi failed to pull it off and fell straight into the water. Mahindra tweeted, “Incredible that so many eminent people actually showed up in the belief that he would walk on water! Well, maybe not that incredible.” He added that this would have made it big on social media even today, tweeting“ Today, it would be a highly instagrammable event & would probably draw large crowds as well!”

Who is Marie Kondo?
