    Future Supply Chain Solutions CEO is a qualified mountaineer, takes up yoga or zumba at work to stay fit


    Arduous workouts of 90 mins daily helped PV Sheshadri adapt to the high-altitude environment.

    PV Sheshadri, CEO of Future Supply Chain Solutions and a mountaineer, on scaling peaks and the preparation that goes into it.

    “For those not gifted with a great metabolism, the only way to ensure a healthy body is through dedication and hard work. From a young age, I have been an outdoor fitness freak. I strive to do more moderate-to-intense workouts whenever I can. Given the demands of my job, working out every day isn’t possible. But I at least try to clock three-four days a week.

    “A typical day has me up at 6 am. I run for about 45 minutes, and on days I can’t do this, I hit the gym. As a matter of habit, even when I’m travelling, I carry my running shoes and gym attire, so I can make use of the fitness centre at the hotel where I am staying.

    “Recently, we came up with yoga and zumba sessions at the office, which I try to do twice every week, if I am present.

    “I am a qualified mountaineer from the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute in Darjeeling and had opportunities since my younger days to scale high-altitude mountains. Whenever I would prepare for a climb, arduous pre-climb workouts of 60 to 90 minutes every day helped me adapt to the high-altitude environment. This helps me even now, and doesn’t seem a drag or a strain to me.

    Run, Mumbai, Run

    Mumbaikars woke up early this Sunday for the 16th edition of Tata Mumbai Marathon. The big event saw thousands of participants from almost every walk of life. From politicians to film stars, from sports personalities to army officers, the 42 km dream run was steps ahead of its previous installments.

    A record-breaking 46,414 number of people took part in the marathon which started at 5.30 am and ended at 2 pm.

    Marathon Ambassador Mary Kom, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and his wife and singer Amruta Fadnavis, actor Gulshan Grover and Tina Ambani flagged off the big race.

    While Reliance Group chairman Anil Ambani completed half the marathon by running for 21 kms, actor and fitness enthusiast Milind Soman ran for the complete stretch. Actor Rahul Bose, Kartik Aaryan and actress Tara Sharma, too, took part in the race.

    Participants were flagged off from the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and raced till the Bandra-Worli Sea Link and back to complete the race.

    “I’m a vegetarian, but I have egg whites. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day for me, and I ensure I eat a filling, power-packed meal to start my day. I always carry an apple in my bag, which I eat between lunch and dinner. This ensures I don’t starve and my energy levels are maintained.

    “A typical dinner for me is rice and sambhar, given my South Indian origins. My protein needs are met through the egg whites and pulses. I have never taken any supplements. Natural sources suit our body the best and refresh our minds. I restrict my cravings to Italian cuisine.”

    “I would define myself as a deeply spiritual and God-fearing person. I have been bought up in a traditional South Indian family. Spirituality has been a part of my value system, so I not only follow this way of life, but also believe in passing on these values to the next generation.

    “I pray every day for 15-20 minutes, longer on Sundays. This is what has led me to be the person I am today.”

    “There are several things one needs to do to condition one’s mind. To start with, you need to be composed, and for that, it’s important to develop listening skills. I listen to people around me, as it helps me get a clearer picture before I can take a call. My major hack has been a meditation habit that I do every Sunday. By nature, I am a restless person and have to keep myself busy. So, I practice meditation on Sundays.”

    Marathons are a dime a dozen these days. But if adventure and wanting to beat the odds is more your thing, give these unique races around the world a shot.

    Last man standing

    This world run has a moving finish line in the form of a car. The vehicle starts moving 30 minutes into the race, and gradually increases its speed to out-run participants. The last person left running is declared the winner with all proceeds from the race going to fund spinal cord research. Participants from 58 countries across the world set off at exactly at the same time for this race. Last year, Polish runner Bartosz Olszewski ran 88.24km.
