Ringing The Customary Bell

The presence of political dignitaries like Banerjee and Hasina made the pink-ball Test all the more special.

The two leaders rang the the customary Eden bell in the presence of BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, Bangladesh Cricket Board chief Nazmul Hasan Papon and the god of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar.

The ‘ringing bell’ ceremony has become an important tradition for almost every match that is played at the Eden Gardens. Previously, the ‘ringing bell’ ceremony used to take place only before the start of the Test at Lords in England. However, 3 years ago, the tradition was started at Eden Gardens ahead of the Test between India and New Zealand.

The Bangladesh PM, clad in a beige saree, and Trinamool Congress leader continued the tradition this year, by ringing the bell just before the start of the match.
