Table for one
“Because of work requirements, travelling alone is a regular occurrence. But I have always enjoyed this time to myself. One memorable experience from a solo holiday was a trip to the Niagara Falls. It was a leisure trip which became a defining moment for me. From travelling alone in the bus, meeting random strangers — each with a unique story to tell — to those who didn’t want to talk at all, to sitting by myself on the grass and enjoying the fireworks... they all contributed to a unique experience. This was 15 years ago, when mobile phone connectivity was still basic, and internet was still very dear. The experience helped me get rid of self-consciousness, and made me feel more complete in my own company.”

Cutting a trip short
“We had to cut short a trip once for health reasons. It was a trip to Shimla, where unfortunately, the accommodation was awful leading to the whole family falling ill!”

Out of my comfort zone
“When on a trip to the Valley of Flowers in Himachal Pradesh, I couldn’t keep pace with the guide. There were large parts of the trail where I was alone. It was dangerous terrain, but I knew I had to push on. The silences along the trail, the challenges, and the absence of support, they all made me aware of the fact that there is a superpower around us with an enormous reservoir of energy that I could draw from. Looking back, this was one trek where I needed a lot of mental fortitude and a willingness to continue.”

On the bucket list

“Kashmir and Leh-Ladakh. I wanted to visit these places 30 years ago for my honeymoon, but I still haven’t managed to go there. There is so much to do and see in the world. If I had the time and the resources, I would be an explorer.”

Friend for life

“Ironically enough, it was on a short journey that I made a friend for life. It was an hour-long flight where we connected so well that we kept in touch even after. It was 20 years ago, but we have stayed friends throughout.”

The Passport Shuffle

22 Aug, 2019
The new Henley Passport Index is out, and there has been a major shuffle in the global ranking of the world's passports. In the beginning of 2019, 27 countries were in the top 10 positions on the index, but this month 4 more countries were added to the list. Several countries climbed the list to have most powerful passports, while few slipped from their positions, including India. The ranking is determined on the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa. It is based on the exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association, which maintains the world’s largest and most accurate database of travel information. Here's a look at all the top ranking passports of this year.
