Yoga helps the actress stay fit, mentally and physically.

International Yoga Day: Jacqueline Fernandez recommends 3 yoga poses to stay calm & in shape

Fitness has always been about the challenge and feeling of accomplishment, where my addiction lies. I always push myself to be the most centered yogini I can be.

Through the course of exploring yoga, there were numerous moments when attaining difficult asanas with ease seemed impossible. However, once done, there was a sense of exhilarating in achieving difficult poses after regular practice.

Yoga helps me to stay fit mentally and physically. I always prefer doing yoga when I am stressed or over-worked. Some of my favorite positions that I’ve mastered are:

Downward dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana)
This eases blood circulation to the face and brain. It has been the biggest contributor to my glowing skin.

Headstand (Shirshasana)
This asana helps squeeze the adrenal glands and flush out the stress hormones. It has helped me stay calm and composed.

Monkey Pose (Hanumanasana)
This one helps me stretch and strengthen my muscles.

Apart from yoga, I also love boxing that helps me strengthen my core.

On most Sundays, while my fur babies – MiuMiu and Yoda – are enjoying their afternoon siesta, I sweat out all the toxins. Working out helps me stay in shape and look good.

While exercising is a large part of staying healthy, eating nutritious food is equally important. I love all kinds of salads. I experiment with different leaves, seeds, veggies and dressings to keep the excitement alive. Quite often when I’m on the go, I opt for detox liquids which work as a salad-in-a-bottle and helps me earn the ‘green warrior’ status.

Another extremely important part of sustaining good health is staying hydrated, especially in hot weather. My favorite drinks to beat to heat are coconut water and lemonade.

As it’s not always possible to eat healthy, I love detoxifying my body with juice cleanses after a long weekend of binge-eating or shoot schedules. I enjoy going through the 3-day cleanse as it provides sufficient time for my body to flush out the toxins and restart.

Let me take this opportunity to wish all the yogis (and non-yogis) a very happy international yoga day! Grab the opportunity to go to that yoga class you’ve been wanting to.
