NEW DELHI: Celebrities from the film industry, sports fraternity, and leaders from the business world (and a fugitive, too!) all expressed sadness at Jet Airways being grounded. The airline had its last flight on Tuesday night after it failed to get Rs 400 crore without additional collateral.

According to ET, a report said that the troubled carrier made a loss of Rs 21 crore daily, and has at least Rs 15,000 crore of debt and dues.

Fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya, who is also Chairman of The UB Group, was one of the first to share his sympathies for the airline. Appreciating Jet's former chairman and promoter Naresh Goyal, the Kingfisher founder expressed concern on why so 'many airlines have bitten the dust in India'.

Soon after, tweets from the tinsel town started flooding the social media platform.

While actor Siddharth indulged in wordplay from lyrics of John Denver's popular song 'Leaving On A Jet Plane', Rishi Kapoor - who is undergoing treatment in New York - thanked Jet for serving its customers with utmost love and care.

Anupam Kher also thanked the carrier for their professionalism and service.

Actress-turned-politician Gul Panag, who is a trained pilot herself, quoted last year's tweet congratulating Jet on completing 25 years of service. She wished the airline luck.

'Veere Di Wedding' actress Swara Bhaskar also said she hopes to see Jet back in the skies again.

A couple of days ago, actress Raveena Tandon took to Twitter to pray for the airline.

From the business world, Aloke Bajpai, founder and CEO of ixigo.com, thanked the airline for being the first to partner with his start-up. He also added that he will miss the 'imli' (tamarind) candies that were served on Jet flights.

From the sports field, former cricketers Mohammed Azharuddin and Sanjay Manjrekar expressed sadness to not see the airline fly again.

Comedian Atul Khatri showed his funny side with a series of tweets asking help from India's richest person and RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani.

Around 20,000 employees and passengers were hit hard as the carrier announced suspension after being unable to maintain even bare minimum operations. At present, the airline has over 15,000 direct and 5,000 indirect employees. It operated five aircraft with over 25 flights on Wednesday.
