Smriti Irani takes Gandhi bastion; Sunny wins by margin of 82K; Gambhir scores in political debut by over 3.9L votes

The union textile minister was pitted against Congress chief Rahul Gandhi.

It was a #TerrificThursday for the ruling National Democratic Alliance, as it surged ahead winning the 16th Lok Sabha Elections for the second consecutive term.

In a nail-biting finish, Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani proved victorious in Amethi against Congress chief Rahul Gandhi. The 43-year-old won the day-long battle with a strong lead of 55,000+ votes. Gandhi, who won in Wayanad, congratulated Irani for her victory while accepting responsibility for the Congress's poor show, in a press conference.

The verdict for 2019 Lok Sabha elections is out, and the incumbent NDA government has retained power. After a long day of suspense that saw some big-ticket candidates trailing and leading, the winners are here.From the list of celebrities who tried their luck in politics, some made a stunning debut while others tasted defeat.Here's a round-up of the celebrities who made it, and who didn't.

Earlier, amidst the poll counting excitement, Irani had posted a witty tweet. She wrote, 'TsuNAMO TsunAMI NaMo 2.0 Dhanyawad Bharat #VijayiBharat'.

BJP's Poonam Mahajan, who was pitted against Congress's Priya Dutt, also proved victorious today. She won the battle by a margin of 1,30,000+ votes.

Meanwhile, actor Sunny Deol and cricketer Gautam Gambhir - both of whom made their political debuts for the BJP - also won. Deol won by 82,000+ votes in Gurdaspur, while Gambhir managed a big margin of 3,91,222 votes in his constituency of East Delhi.

The 'Gadar' actor took to Twitter to thank PM Modi and Amit Shah.

Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishan, who contested from Gorakhpur which was earlier represented by UP CM Yogi Adityanath, won in his constituency by 3,00,000+ votes. His fellow Bhojpuri star and Delhi BJP chief, Manoj Tiwari, too, retained his North East Delhi seat by 3,66,102 votes.

Hema Malini, who is the incumbent Mathura MP, won by 2,90,000+ votes.

Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishan is contesting from Gorakhpur.

Contesting on a BJP ticket, singer Hans Raj Hans took a strong lead in North West Delhi, defeating the Congress and Aam Aadmi Party leaders by 5,53,000+ votes

Actress and BJP candidate Kirron Kher, who is also the sitting MP from Chandigarh, retained her seat against her nearest rival and Congress nominee Pawan Kumar Bansal by 46,970 votes.

Actress Mimi Chakraborty, contesting on a TMC ticket, took a strong lead in Jadavpur, winning by 2,95,239 votes.

TMC candidate actress Nusrat Jahan won in Basirhat with a strong margin of 3,50,369 votes.
