Mizo volleyball player breastfeeds baby during match break, wins hearts, and the Internet
Mizoram’s sports minister Robert Romawia Royte also took to Twitter to laud the player.
Lalventluangi, who is from Tuikum in Serchhip district of the northeast’s smallest state, became the toast of Twitter and Facebook soon after Mizoram’s sports minister Robert Romawia Royte and others posted the picture of her breastfeeding her child, seemingly oblivious to everything around her.
“Salute Ms Veni,” tweeted Royte, uncorking a spurt of retweets applauding her for playing the dual role of a sportswoman and a mother with elan. Lalventluangi’s team won the match, too.

Royte, who owns the I- League football team Aizawl FC, later decided to reward the player with Rs 10,000 for setting an example.
“The picture was taken without her knowledge, but it has gone viral. Lalventluangi ...is a powerful spiker,” Royte told TOI from Aizawl. “Her picture is also very powerful, showing how strong motherhood can be,” he said.
According to a Facebook post that has been widely shared, Lalventluangi had taken permission to check in at the players’ camp in Aizawl with her baby. “A stolen moment to feed her 7-month-old baby in between a game was captured, making it the ‘picture mascot’ of the Mizoram State Games 2019,” the post said.
