Adhil Shetty, CEO, BankBazaar, on why having a projector is a must in his den.

“The one item I have in my den is a projector and a sound system to go with it. I have a passion for movies, especially foreign films. For the longest time, I’ve never had a TV, but I’ve always had a projector, so that I could project movies from my computer and watch them on the big screen. It wouldn’t even matter if my den had no chairs, but it should have a projector and a sound system. Having my own projector means a lot to me. I bought my first one with my friend with whom I shared my apartment. We originally split the cost between us, but he bought it off me, over a 12-month period. But I loved it so much that I soon bought one of my own."

Movie mania
“My den is a place to watch movies from all over the world made by directors who have an interesting story to tell. It could be movies in Tamil, Malayalam, Spanish, French or Korean. It could be anything that takes me to a different world altogether. There’s a projector, a sound system, and there’s a movie playing off the internet. No distractions. If I’m not working, I’m in the room, relaxing with my family.”

Wall of fame
“I would love to have posters of 'Shoplifters' and 'Blue Is the Warmest Colour' on my wall. They won the Palme d’Or at Cannes.”

Rising Up To The Challenge

7 Jun, 2018
Narendra Modi may have needed India skipper Virat Kohli to set him a fitness challenge, but these business heads are setting their own health goals.

If you could invite anyone…
“I would choose two people — Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar and Hong Kong-based director Wong Karwai. I would love to watch a P Bharathiraja movie with them and know their thoughts on it.”

.. What is the one thing your den would never have?
“A TV.”
.. What does the sign outside your door say?
“Enjoy the small things in life.”
.. One adjective to describe your den:

Design details
“My wife and I choose to decorate the house ourselves. We believe that everything can be done over a period of time. There is no rush to get everything done right now. The pieces we choose are usually associated with a memory or something we did. Every three months or so, we pick up one item we see somewhere. It could be a chair in Jaipur, a side table that we saw in Chor Bazaar in Mumbai, or a folding stool we picked up in Kochi.”

Sharing is caring
“I love sharing my space, especially with my partner. I like having my friends over. We relax and chill. It is a good feeling because it is your space, your music, your lighting, it makes the get-together much more personal and cosy.”
