NEW DELHI: Congratulations are in order! Arjuna Awardee Hima Das appeared for Class 12 examination under the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council, and scored a first division.

Gaurav Gogoi, MP from Samajwadi party in Manipur state, also wished the sprinter. Other than the politician, her fans also posted congratulatory messages on Twitter.

Asian Games silver medallist's board exams began on February 12 and went on till mid-March. In order to appear for her examinations near Dhing College in Assam, she avoided staying at her native Kandhulimari village in Nagaon district. She kept shuttling between the hostel of Sports Authority of India in Guwahati and her home which is 120kms away for her training during the examination.

In a February interview to PTI, the 19-year-old sprinter had said, "I am looking at some major tournaments in 2019 and I am trying to focus on my training along with taking examination. I have made my schedule in such a way that whenever I am getting time from studies, I do my training."

On the professional front, the athlete bagged a gold in World U-20 Championships 2018 held in Finland, making her the first Indian to win at an international track event across all age groups.

Last year, sportswear brand Adidas signed an endorsement deal with the sports star, and she is expected to get around Rs 10-15 lakh endorsement fee annually other than training and racing merchandise by the brand.
