The Reliance Industries Annual General Meeting is a closely watched affair, with many announcements expected. A surprise announcement at the 42nd RIL AGM, held in Mumbai yesterday (August 12) was a tie-up between Reliance Jio and Microsoft.

As chairman Mukesh Ambani announced this tie up, he also said that the audience can expect to hear from his ‘friend’ Satya Nadella. The audible gasps from the audience indicated that those present presumed Nadella was present at the AGM. Sadly, they were disappointed as his face flashed on the screens and a pre-recorded message played out.

Nadella may have been absent, but Microsoft was represented by the company’s India boss, Anant Maheshwari at the AGM. As Ambani introduced him, Maheshwari, promptly stood up and waved out out to the audience.

A family affair
Business aspect of the AGM aside, it is a family affair, not just for the promoter family but also the extended RIL shareholder family. At this AGM too, the family theme played out strong. After chairman Mukesh Ambani delivered his approximate 90 minute-long speech, there was a brief interlude when the curtains went down. As the curtains went up again, it was time for the second act with the shareholders taking the mic this time.

Along with the usual requests for bonus and dividends to be declared, the shareholders took time to laud the family. Nita Ambani (Mukesh Ambani’s wife) was praised for being her husband, and RIL’s lucky charm. Bouquets of flowers were presented to Ambani’s kids, ‘prince’ Akash and ‘princess’ Isha, and good wishes for their respective marital lives showered. Daughter-in-law Shloka (Akash’s wife) was also mentioned as the harbinger of much good fortune to the family and business.

Family First

12 Aug, 2019
The Reliance Industries Annual General Meeting (AGM) is a much looked forward to annual event, for shareholders as well as the media. Each year, RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani is accompanied by his wife, Nita, mother, Kokilaben, and children, Isha, Akash and Anant at the meeting. The company’s 42nd AGM, scheduled for Monday, Aug 12 will most likely see the family in full force once again. Of course, this year, post Isha and Akash’s respective weddings, perhaps some added attendance could be expected. Looking back at the family’s presence over the years at the RIL AGM.
