Designer duo Shantanu & Nikhil give their style tips for winter weddings. Pro tip: Don’t shun the colour white.

Wedding season
“This wedding season, bright and vibrant hues will take centrestage. Contemporised Indian fashion, rich fabrics, and techniques like tone on tone textures, metallic appliques and the use of distinctive cuts and placement will be big. They will be showcased in vibrant colour palettes with subtle yet bold embroideries.”

Bright like a diamond
“Men should be open to brighter hues in their wardrobe instead of only classics like black, blue and grey. Bright pinks, yellows, greens and blues can look very chic if styled well.”

Winter weddings are ideal for…
“Twinning a couple’s outfits.”

White is for…
“White isn’t usually associated with winter weddings. However, we feel that it’s such a classic colour that it needn’t be restricted to one season alone. It’s a versatile colour and can mix with other colours too. It adds a certain richness to your ensemble.”

For an awards night
“Try a tailored short sherwani with military chic nuances and slim trousers, and a classic pair of black or brown shoes.”

Sangeet style
“For the sangeet ceremony, we’d recommend a minimalistic bundi with an asymmetrical kurta and well-tailored trousers, paired with a striking pair of shoes.”

Style icons
“Bradley Cooper, Tom Ford and Will Smith.”

The accessory you wish would make a comeback

“Millennials wearing pocket squares, but in new and spunky colours. Pocket squares are timeless and are often misunderstood as an accessory. But they add so much character to an outfit.”

Biggest style tip…
“Don’t try to copy anyone. You can always draw inspiration, but make sure the final look does not compromise your identity.”

A fashion faux-pas you’d never make
“Bell-bottoms paired with boots.”

Style code
“Shoes alone no longer define a man. Nowadays, there are so many other attributes that contribute to the outlook, such as sharply tailored fits, intelligent layering, all matched with the right pair of shoes. These elements, when put together, help define a man.”

Day to night
“When going from day to night, remember to take a classic 2-button jacket, as it goes well with any semiformal occasion.”

Personal style
Shantanu: “Athleisure, a blend of formal and sports wear.”

Nikhil: “Urban chic meets street style. I connect with the idea of sports meeting formal wear. For example, an Indian bandhgala paired with jeans is my personal style, simply because it’s a classic look with a subtle twist.”

Fashion inspiration

Shantanu: “I get my fashion sense from the classic era of the ’70s with a dash of contemporary influences.”

Nikhil: “For me, it comes from who I’ve been at different stages of my life. As people, we are constantly evolving. And my identity has played a huge role in the way I dress. And it’s still changing.”
