On weekends, Chopard Parfums CEO Patrizio Stella switches his suit to jeans and turtleneck:

Awkward beginnings
“When I was 16, my father gifted me a blue suit, handmade by our family tailor. At first, I was embarrassed. It was just too formal for a teenager. But then I got to understand that elegance is what people notice from your face and your smile, not from your clothes. Today, I visit my traditional tailor in Milan or buy suits from one of my favourite designer brands in Milan, London or Paris.”

Smart start
“The first time I felt I looked good in a suit was when I wore my Armani grey suit to my graduation from Cattolica University in Milan. It set the perfect welcome to a new professional life.”

Denim weekends
“If the situation allows, I love a three-piece suit. I feel at ease in a three-piece; the order outside makes me feel relaxed inside. Weekends, however, are for expressing my wild side and therefore a comfortable touch is more welcome. Jeans and a turtleneck jumper in the winter and a simple T-shirt and jeans in the summer.”

Favourite suit
“A modern slimfit tuxedo.”

Favourite combination
“Grey trousers with a luminous Prada blazer or blue trousers with a Loro Piana tobacco jacket.”

Most experimental suit
“A white linen suit that I wear with a Panama hat but only when I feel in a true Latin American dandy spirit.”

Most expensive suit
“I forget suit prices immediately after buying them since I believe they’ve always been mine.”

Best memory in a suit
“Our last Cannes summer party with Philipp Plein (a famous and rulebreaking German designer) where we decided to jump into the swimming pool with our suits on and all the guests shouting ‘Don’t do it’. But life is about having fun whenever you can.”

Fashion tip
“You can never go wrong with a red regimental tie.”

A suit faux-pas I’d never make…
“Wearing a suit with a shortsleeved shirt.”

Suit star
“Roberto Mancini, the current coach of the Italian national soccer team, is a genius on the soccer court and he has a natural elegance.”.
