Why Byju Raveendran named his start-up after him: No, it wasn't vanity or narcissism
The founder of edutech start-up said the name was the result of a running joke.
The presentation gave the assembled audience a view into the journey of Byju’s and the many contributing factors to its recently gained unicorn status. One of those factors could well be “teachers who don’t look like teachers”.
Raveendran is one of the those teachers too.
One of the questions posed to him was why the startup was named after him. Turns out, it wasn’t vanity or narcissism. “I used to teach my friends. And as a joke they started calling (those sessions) Byju’s classes. The name just stuck,” Raveendran said.
“I don’t teach anymore because I have been able to create teachers who are far better than me. I’m in less than five per cent of the videos today,” he added.
