Anyone travelling to Japan during springtime must experience one of the most exceptional natural events – the mesmerising Cherry Blossoms.

Every year, for a week or two, sakura trees blossom and Japan is transformed into a visually arresting sea of pink. Hanami—the act of cherry blossom viewing is extremely popular with tourists and locals alike. Picnics with an abundance of food, beer and sake are enjoyed by the revellers with the falling sakura flowers making up for a stunning backdrop. These parties last well into the night as the moonlight illuminates the pink blossoms.

The Cherry Blossom Festival in Japan starts from the southern part of the country in Okinawa and moves northwards towards Hokkaido – so in case you have missed Hanami in Tokyo or Kyoto, you could always head to Sapporo or Fukushima. In 2018, the festival is expected to begin by mid-February in Okinawa and continue northwards till early May.

In Tokyo, some of the best viewing can be experienced at Shinjuku Gyoen – where the sakura flowers bloom in shades of white, pale pink & dark pink or visit Chidorigafushi, rent a boat and row down the river where sakura trees line both sides. As the name suggests, the Sakura Prince Hotel in Tokyo has Sakura trees within its premises and guests can enjoy a private dinner under the pink canopy – which provides an experience of a lifetime.

Yoshinoyama, a mountain with over 30,000 cherry trees is considered to be one of the best viewing spot in all of Japan. You can also head to the Kema Sakuranomiya Park in Osaka that boasts of over 5000 cherry blossom trees scattered within the park. Both are truly a sight to behold!

The Cherry blossom season is breathtaking and it is worth planning your trip to Japan around this time. All you have to do is check the schedule of ANA, the largest airline in Japan, to book a direct flight from Mumbai or Delhi on the Dreamliner 787. And what’s better is that ANA serves delicious Indian meals including Jain food to take care of your taste buds and appetite.
