Onion extends gains

Onion Index which rose 10.4% to 298.46 amid low arrivals caused by crop damage in Maharashtra.

The Agriwatch Agri Commodities Index rose 0.24 per cent to 118.30 during the week ended November 23, 2019 from 118.01 the previous week led by the Onion Index which rose 10.4 per cent to 298.46 amid low arrivals caused by crop damage in Maharashtra.

All the five pulses in the Pulses Index ended lower with Urad falling 12.1 per cent after a sharp 51 per cent gain in the previous five weeks.

The base for the Index and all sub-Indices is 2014 (= 100). Seven of the nine commodity group sub-Indices and 12 of the 29 individual commodity sub-Indices that constitute the Index, gained during the week.

The commodity group sub-Index values and their weekly changes are: Cereals: 119.04 (+ Onion Index which rose 10.4 per cent to 298.46 amid low arrivals caused by crop damage in Maharashtra. 0.26 per cent ), Pulses: 134.06 (-3.18 per cent ), Potato & Onion: 183.50 (+7.68 per cent ), Edible Oils: 117.05 (+0.06 per cent ), Oilseeds: 110.49 (+0.11 per cent ), Spices: 153.25 (+0.01 per cent ) and Other Non-Food Articles: 88.12 (+0.64 per cent ).
