Market Now: BSE Smallcap index outpaces Sensex, hits fresh-record high

NEW DELHI: Hitting a fresh record high of 18,672, the S&P BSE Smallcap index was outperforming benchmark Sensex in morning trade on Wednesday.

The BSE Smallcap index was trading 131 points up at 18,659, while Sensex was 19 points down at 33,818. The NSE Nifty50 was 8 points down at 10,455.

Shares of Arihant Superstructures (up 16.79 per cent), NACL Industries (up 14.07 per cent), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (up 11.68 per cent) and Kopran (up 10.41 per cent) zoomed over 10 per cent in the smallcap index.

However, Bombay Rayon Fashions (down 9.99 per cent), Ricoh India (down 4.99 per cent), Steel Exchange India (down 4.91 per cent), JMT Auto (down 3.93 per cent), Videocon Industries (down 3.47 per cent) and Indo Rama Synthetics (India) (down 3.09 per cent) declined over 3 per cent in the BSE Smallcap index.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 21 were trading in the green, while 29 were in the red.

Hero MotoCorp, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, Maruti, Tata Motors and Wipro were among the gainers in the Sensex index.

Tata Steel, Dr Reddy's Lab, Power Grid Corporation and Hindustan Unilever were among the losers of the Sensex kitty of stocks.
