Market Now: BSE Smallcap index outperforms Sensex; Prabhat Dairy zooms 15%

Equity benchmarks remained cautious ahead of the two-day US Fed policy meeting outcome, expected later in the day.

NEW DELHI: Outperforming benchmark Sensex, the BSE Smallcap index was trading marginally up in morning trade on Wednesday.

The S&P BSE Smallcap index was trading 0.08 per cent up at 18,142, while the Sensex was 0.22 per cent down at 33,155 around 10.15 am (IST). The NSE Nifty50 index was 0.13 per cent down at 10,226.

Shares of Prabhat Dairy (up 15.03 per cent), AVT Natural Products (up 12.22 per cent), Star Paper Mills (up 11.20 per cent) and G M Breweries (up 10.52 per cent) zoomed over 10 per cent in the smallcap index.

On the other hand, Gujarat NRE Coke (down 8.57 per cent), High Ground Enterprise (down 4.99 per cent), Ricoh India (down 4.99 per cent), Steel Exchange India (down 4.98 per cent), MIC Electronics (down 4.96 per cent), Videocon Industries (down 4.88 per cent) and Kokuyo Camlin (down 4.49 per cent) cracked over 4 per cent in the smallcap space.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 19 were trading in the green, while 31 were in the red.

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Infosys, Reliance Industries, Mahindra & Mahindra, Dr Reddy's Lab, Bharti Airtel and Hero MotoCorp were trading in the green in the Sensex index.

On the contrary, Adani Ports, ITC, ICICI Bank, Tata Steel, Power Grid Corporation and State Bank of India were seen under selling pressure.
