You are currently investing in a large cap scheme (Rs 10,000), and two multi cap schemes (Rs 12,000). Ideally, you should build a mutual fund portfolio based on your goals, investment horizon, and risk profile. You have not mentioned your risk profile. So, it is not possible to comment specifically on your choice of schemes. Here are some pointers. Large cap mutual fund schemes are recommended typically to conservative equity mutual fund investors who want to grow their investments without too much volatility. Multi cap schemes are ideal for investors with moderate risk profile. Since these schemes have the freedom to invest across market capitalisations and sectors, they are riskier than large cap schemes. But they also have to potential to offer higher returns than large cap schemes. If your risk profile is conservative, you should invest in a mutual fund portfolio with one or two large cap schemes. If you have a moderate risk profile, you may invest in one or two multi cap schemes. Also, you may add a large cap schemes to it if you want to diversify your portfolio to bring down the risk. Please keep this in mind while making the extra investment.
Also, keep track of your investments. Review their performance at least once a year. Also, start shifting the money from equity mutual fund schemes to safe avenues like bank deposits and debt mutual funds at least three years before your retirement. This will help you to preserve your capital if there is turmoil in the stock market.
