I had invested in HDFC Mid-Cap Opportunities Fund one year ago. The fund is giving negative returns. Should I hold my investments or exit?

Ankita Tanna Narsey, Founder, Oaktree Financial Advisors, responds:

Investments in equity mutual funds require patience. You need an investment horizon of seven to 10 years to earn decent returns from your equity investments.

Mid cap index is underperforming. It is the best time to take advantage of low mid cap index. Be patient and hold your investments.

HDFC Mid-Cap Opportunities is good fund. I would ask you to hold your investments for at least seven years. You can also assign your investments to a particular financial goal to stay undisturbed during adverse market conditions.

Kindly note, equity investments are suitable only for long-term financial goals. If you have any short-term goals, you must consider other options that match your investment horizon and risk profile.
