NEW DELHI: The Border Security Force headquarters in Delhi has been partially closed. Two floors of the headquarter building at CGO Complex in Lodhi Road has been closed as a precaution, after a staff member tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday night.

The BSF is sanitising the block where the building is located. The move by the BSF comes after the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) closed its headquarters, also at CGO Complex, on Sunday morning after two positive coronavirus cases came to light. This included an Assistant Commandant, who was working as a staff member for a CRPF Special Director General, and a Head Constable working as a driver. Following the sealing, about 1,000 CRPF personnel are working from home. While sanitisation of the building is taking place, the headquarters is expected to open on Wednesday.

Both the central armed police forces have been badly affected by the coronavirus outbreak. The CRPF has about 142 cases of coronavirus, including 135 at its 31 battalion in Delhi’s Mayur Vihar area. The results of 22 more persons from this battalion are awaited. In the BSF, there are a total of 56 coronavirus cases, including new ones of a Head Constable working at the headquarters in Delhi and a constable at the force’s West Bengal frontier.

“A head constable of the BSF working at the BSF Force Headquarters, Block 10 CGO Complex, has been found COVID-19 positive late night on May 3. He last attended office on May 1. He was working in an office at the second floor of the BSF Force Headquarters. All persons who came in contact with him have been identified and quarantined. They will also be tested for COVID 19,” the BSF said.

“Offices on the first and second floors of FHQ have been closed as a precaution,” it added.

Before the detection of the case, the BSF headquarters was closed early by 4 pm on May 1 as a precautionary measure. All attending staff vacated offices and the entire office complex was thoroughly sanitized with solutions of disinfectants. The headquarters was closed on Saturday and Sunday. No staff, except for security personnel and the control room members in limited numbers, worked at the headquarters.

“The disinfection of the complete Block 10 CGO complex BSF force headquarters will be done again on Monday afternoon in light of the latest COVID-19 positive case. Identification of secondary and tertiary contacts as per protocol is being carried out,” the BSF said.

On Sunday, 25 personnel of a company of 94 men of a BSF battalion deployed with the Delhi Police in the Jama Masjid area tested positive for COVID-19. The total number cases in that battalion stands at 31. On the same day, 12 BSF personnel in Tripura tested positive for the virus.
