On the eve of the visit of the U.S. Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, to India, the first step towards a major defence deal with the United States has been taken. India wants ten more P-8I aircrafts for surveillance, reconnaissance and anti-submarine operations in addition to the eight it contracted for in 2009 for the Navy. The P-8I aircraft is a variant of the P-8A Poseidon aircraft that Boeing developed as a replacement for the US Navy’s ageing P-3 fleet. The search for the additional ten P8Is cleared its first hurdle today when the Services Capital Acquisition Categorization Higher Committee (SCAPCHC), headed by the Chief of Integrated Staff or CISC, a senior lieutenant-general and including the three vice chiefs of staff of the three services cleared the proposal of about Rs 22,500 crore. Times Now''s Srinjoy Chowdhury shares more details. Listen-in!!!
