Indian Army and Assam police apprehended 7 caders of Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO).
GUWAHATI:Security forces on Friday busted a recruitment module of the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO), a militant group, and apprehended seven cadres from a forest in Assam.

“On receipt of confirmed input, a joint operations was launched by Indian Army along with Assam Police on May 7 in Kokrajhar. The highly coordinated and successful operation resulted in busting of the KLO recruitment module and apprehension of seven dreaded cadres,” an official said.

The recruitment module was operational since December and was being run by a Myanmar-trained self-styled area commander, identified as Lankeshwar Koch, along with four Bangladesh-trained militants and two newly recruited cadres.

“Since last about two months, a numbers of operations were launched to bust this module, which had restricted these cadres in contacting local youth for recruitment. The cadres were finally caught while they were attending a meeting inside the forest. Huge quantity of arms and ammunition have also been seized from their possession," the official said.

The militant outfit had been continuously striving to gain prominence in Lower Assam, he added.

“Apprehension of 7 cadres and busting of recruitment module has dealt a severe blow to the ulterior motives of KLO which has been trying hard to gain prominence after disbandment of NDFB. The successful operations will help in lowering the morale of insurgent organization and boost the confidence of security forces,” he further said.
