BSF’s 114 Battalion were attacked while conducting an area-dominating exercise.
An assistant sub-inspector and three constables of the Border Security Force were killed in an encounter with Maoists in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh on Thursday. The troops were in the Mahala forest area for ensuring peaceful polling in the two phases of Lok Sabha elections on April 11 and 18. The left-wing extremists have given a call for boycotting elections.

BSF’s 114 Battalion were attacked while conducting an area-dominating exercise. The four were killed and two injured in the gun battle which ensued, said local police officials. The injured were rushed to a local hospital at Pakhanjoor. The number of Maoist casualties were not known as they fled into the jungle.

Union home minister Rajnath Singh expressed anguish and conveyed his condolences over the killings. He spoke to DG Rajni Kant Mishra to get an update on the encounter. “He has apprised me of the operation. He will leave for Chhattisgarh to help families of martyred BSF soldiers and also assess the ground situation,” the home minister tweeted.
