Subhash Chopra, Congress state president, claims AAP and BJP are two sides of the same coin. Congress can make Delhi clean and green, he tells Prerna Katiyar in an interview. Edited excerpts:

How many seats will Congress win by fighting alone?
We are going to form the government in Delhi this time.

Didn’t the Congress draw a blank in 2015?

Even BJP got just three seats. There was a popular uprising and AAP benefitted. Kejriwal promised the moon and said he would take no gaadi-ghoda-bangla. A man who used to talk about living in a two-room house is now living in a 50-room bungalow. And he has spent so much money on advertisements. That could have been used for development.

How will the Congress revive itself in Delhi?

We stand only for development. We have done it for 15 years in Delhi. Delhi has been spoilt by AAP. We have a vision and we have the calibre to make Delhi clean and green again. Today, 58 people die a day due to pollution. Filthy water flows through taps. Onion prices had shot up when Sheila Dikshit was CM too, but she cracked down on hoarders. Kejriwal has not done that. BJP and AAP are working in collusion with them. Some 16 lakh youth are unemployed. What are they doing?

So what exactly are you promising Delhi residents?
We have already promised relief of 600 units in electricity. It won’t be free. We will clarify in the manifesto how this will be given. And we will give Rs. 5,000 as part of Sheila Pension Yojana. We started this scheme in 1998 with Rs. 200 and raised it to Rs. 2,500. The current government has not raised the pension and even denied it to 1,80,000 pensioners in 2016. The Delhi High Court has said you will have to pay it to widows and differentlyabled. Recently, Kejriwal said he will open old-age homes. By giving Rs. 10,000 to senior citizens to take care of their needs, a family can stay united. There will be no need for old-age homes; these are not part of our culture.

Won’t fighting polls alone eventually benefit BJP, like during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls?

AAP is anyway the B-team of BJP. Where was Kejriwal when our children in Jamia Millia and JNU were being beaten up? He is otherwise out on dharnas all the time. It is shameful the CM could not take care of the children. Who were the people sitting on dharna at Ramleela Maidan in 2013? Most were from BJP and 10% were youth hoping Kejriwal will be able to do something on corruption. He ignored people who stood with him. This shows that he and his party are hollow. Why has he brought poll strategist Prashant Kishor when he is so sure of his development work in Delhi? But I will give him 100% marks in one aspect: advertisement. He has misused public money.

Who is your CM face?
CM face is immaterial.
