Bhopal Elections Results: Congress flunks crucial MP test, hands over win to Pragya Thakur

Big names contesting: Sadhvi Pragya (BJP), Digvijaya Singh (Congress)

Pragya Singh Thakur, the Malegaon blast accused and Bhopal BJP candidate, trounced Congress stalwart Digvijay Singh by a huge margin of 3,64,822 votes in the Bhopal Lok Sabha seat.

With this, the BJP has retained the high-profile seat, which it has been winning since 1989.

Bhopal, a BJP bastion since 1989 has witnessed a high-decibel campaign with Sadhvi Pragya, a making statements that caused some embarrassment to the BJP and a public reprimand from the prime minister himself.

BJP president Amit Shah has termed Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur’s candidature as a “Satyagraha” against the Congress’s alleged conspiracy of defaming Hindu religion by coining the term Hindu terror.
