Union ministers Gadkari, Bhamre leading; Shinde, Chavan falter

Union ministers and BJP leaders Nitin Gadkari and Subhash Bhamre are leading over their nearest rivals in Maharashtra while Congress stalwarts Sushilkumar Shinde and Ashok Chavan are trailing, as per the trends available so far. The BJP-Shiv Sena combine was ahead in 41 of the 48 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state, while the Congress and NCP candidates seem to be faltering. Gadkari, who is contesting from Nagpur, has taken a lead of 57,279 votes over his Congress rival Nana Patole after four rounds, while Bhamre is leading in Dhule. Fadnavis congratulates Modi, Shah as BJP leads in poll trends

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah over the party's "historic poll victory". According to the latest trends made available by the Election Commission, the BJP-led NDA appeared set to retain power at the Centre with a landslide margin. "The chief minister spoke to Prime Minister Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah and congratulated them for the huge and historic victory in the Lok Sabha polls," an official in the Chief Minister's Office said. The BJP alone was leading in 295 Lok Sabha seats, as per the trends.
