  • The Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) on Tuesday launched a health and nutrition helpline to ensure children under six years of age get nutritional supplements and regular immunisation doses.
  • The helpline, 'Sehat evam Poshan Saathinwas', will remain operational 24X7 in collaboration with NGO Indus Action.

SC says need to regulate electronic media; Centre bats for journalistic freedom

  • There is a need to regulate the electronic media as most of the channels are running for TRPs, leading to “more sensationalism”, the Supreme Court said on Tuesday even as the Centre batted for journalistic freedom saying it would be “disastrous” for any democracy to control the press.
  • The apex court, making clear it is not suggesting “censorship on media”, said there should be some kind of self-regulation in the media.

Consumer confidence up marginally in Sep: Survey

  • Consumer confidence index has shown a marginal uptick of 1.1 percentage points in September 2020, according to a monthly survey.
  • The Refinitiv-Ipsos Primary Consumer Sentiment Index (PCSI) for India has shown upturn across all its four sub-indices in September.
  • The PCSI Employment Confidence sub-index moved up by 1.4 percentage points, while the economic expectations index rose 1.7 percentage points.
  • The PCSI Current Personal Financial Conditions sub-index rose slightly by 0.4 percentage points, and the investment climate sub-index recovered by 1.4 percentage points.

  • U.S. industrial production slowed to a modest increase of 0.4% in August, far weaker than the strong bounce back recorded in previous months when factories were coming back to life.
  • The slight uptick followed gains of 3.5% in July and 6.1% in June, when the industrial sector knocked down by the pandemic began to rebound.

Lok Sabha passes bill to reduce salaries of MPs by 30 pc

  • Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed a bill that reduces the salary payable to Members of Parliament by 30 per cent for one year commencing April 1, 2020.
  • The Salary, Allowances, and Pension of Members of Parliament (Amendment) Bill, 2020, will replace an ordinance brought earlier by the government as part of measures to mobilise resources for fighting COVID-19.
  • The bill was introduced in the lower house on Monday.
  • The Union Cabinet had also approved the temporary suspension of the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) Fund during 2020-21 and 2021-22 in the wake of COVID-19.

Loans worth Rs 45 cr sanctioned under CM self employment scheme

  • Loans worth Rs 45 crore have been sanctioned so far to 1,216 applicants in Uttarakhand under the Mukhya Mantri Swarojgar Yojana, a self-employment scheme launched to benefit lakhs of migrants who returned to their home state following the COVID-19 outbreak.
