New Delhi: After state Congress president Ajoy Kumar’s exit , Congress faced another setback in Jharkhand when MLAs Sukhdeo Bhagat and Manoj Yadav joined BJP on Wednesday in Ranchi.

On Wednesday, five sitting MLAs, two from Congress, two from Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and one independent MLA joined BJP in the presence of Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das, state co-incharge Nand Kishor Yadav, state BJP president Laxman Gilua and MP Jayant Sinha.

Kunal Sarangi and Jaiprakash Bhai Patel of JMM and independent MLA Bhanu Pratap Sahi too joined BJP. While Bhagat, a former Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee president, represents Lohardaga constituency, Yadav was elected from Barkatha seat. Sarangi is an MLA from Baragorah constituency and Sahi is a two-time MLA from Bhavnathpur. Patel represents Mandu constituency.

Apart from these MLAs, four former bureaucrats joined BJP. Former Jharkhand police chief Dinesh Kumar Pandey, former IAS officers Suchitra Sinha and R P Singh and former IPS officer Arun Oraon took the party membership. “All these people have joined the BJP to give a stable government in the interest of society and the state. They believe in the BJP’s ideology, which is a happy message to the state, as the people of the country and the state have rejected dynastic politics,” Das said. Bhagat was upset after he lost the recent Lok Sabha election from Lohardaga in Jharkhand by 10,000 votes due to inner fight among Congress leaders.

Bhanu Pratap Shahi was a minister in Madhu Koda-led government and is an accused in .`130 crore medicine scam and is currently on bail. Just ahead of the assembly polls like other states, BJP has solidified its position in Jharkahnd too with inclusion of a strong leader such as Bhagat to the party fold.

In February, 2015, six Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) MLAs had joined the BJP.

Post the joining in the day, BJP general secretary in-charge of Jharkhand Om Mathur went to meet BJP president and home minister Amit Shah to update him on the new memebrs in the state.

Before meeting Shah, Mathur had met Union minister from Jharkhand Arjun Munda.
