In an interview to ET NOW, Shah categorically laid down the rationale behind the act and assured the northeastern states that the centre was ready to discuss the various contentious provisions of the act. We understand the complexities in the northeast and therefore the government is willing to iron out the various aspects arising from the act, mentioned Shah.
Commenting on National Register of Citizens, Shah unequivocally said the provisions of NRC was brought by Congress in 1985 by Rajiv Gandhi. Clause 4 was further added by the Congress. NRC is nothing, but a register which has record of all the citizens.
Earlier today, the opposition parties continued their protests over the passage of the Citizenship Act . In West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held another march from 8B bus stand in Kolkata to Howrah.
The Citizenship Act makes it easier for the non-Muslim immigrants from India's neighbours - Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan - to become citizens of India. Though the Bill doesn't spell it out clearly, but the fact that it entitles Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians facing religious persecution in the three nations, to seek Indian citizenship, highlights the exclusion of Muslims. The Act says the refugees of the six communities will be given Indian citizenship after residing in India for five years, instead of 11 years earlier.

CAA and NRC are based on religious lines, the language is clear. Trust no one, as he doesn’t need to explain. Pen is mightier than sword. Words are being twisted by Modi and Shah

Infiltrators will not trust him because they want to disturb the peacefulness of this country and live happily here as the vote bank group of the Dynasty loot families and their gutbandhan parties. But we the bonafide citizen do not want to live with the trouble makers and terror minded infiltrators from border countries, but will accommodate persecuted Hindus , sikhs and christian
communities from the bill specified countries. We the boafide Citizens of India have the will power and strength to face such kind of conspired political vandalism by Dynasty loot family party and their hatnandhan looters with 1000 times more vigour and support our full mandated govt to successfully implement the laws and regulations passed in our LS and RS for the welfare of the Civil society in the country to live peacefully with all dignities.

Who will trust him. If he had any integrity then he would not have come with such draconian act singling out 15 per cent of Indians providing false figures to parliament. This illiterate minister mislead parliament in position of minorities in Pakistan. West Pakistan never had more than 3.5 per cent minorities as per 1951 census (as against 23 per cent informed by him, which was figure of East Pakistan now Bangla Desh) And it was after 1971 exodus Bangla Desh has 9.70 per cent minority population. Anyway all this cunning minister would do is bring NRC where Muslims would be forced to prove their citizenship when basic principle of natural justice is anybody is innocent unless proved otherwise. When genuine citizens would not be able to required documents like Assam they would be hounded, forced to appoint lawyers they can't afford forcing them into jails/poverty like Assam.Sheer number of people involved would mean whole country would have worse disruption than demo, with crores loosing their livelihoods. And SC would look other way. Afterall was is not SC, who had not respect for rule of law forcing Assames to prove their citizen, meaning your are guilty unless proven otherwise. No wonder this country is 68 in rule of law behind Nepal and Sri Lanka.
