Congress sent us to jail, how can we tie up with it: Ajay Singh Chautala
Bhupinder Singh Hooda made the offer of an alliance but he does not seem to remember that I have been opposing the Congress since my birth, says Ajay Chautala.
Why no tie-up with the Congress?
There was never a question of a tie-up with the Congress. Bhupinder Singh Hooda made the offer of an alliance but he does not seem to remember that I have been opposing the Congress since my birth. We are anti-Congress in every aspect. The Congress is responsible for foisting a false case on us (Ajay Chautala and his father OP Chautala), sending us to jail.
Is the pact with BJP opportunistic?
Would an alliance with the Congress not have been opportunistic? The 14-year vanvaas of our family has ended now (OP Chautala quit as the CM in 2005) and since we are in power, we can work and serve the people and fulfil our promises to them. The BJP is our old ally - we have worked together with them both in the Centre and the state as part of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD). We are natural allies. This alliance will work for betterment of people and usher in lots of development in Haryana.
Did SAD leader Parkash Badal play a role in forming the alliance?
Badal sahib is our elder and can surely advise us. I was in jail and only spoke to him at the swearing-in function (of the BJP-JJP government), but he must have spoken to my son Dushyant before the alliance was formed. Within just 11months, Dushyant made the JJP stand on its feet and become a strong force in Haryana. He is now the deputy chief minister and the big hope of the people. There is no dispute over ministerial positions.
Any appeal to your father and brother Abhay Chautala?
I have always tried to bring back the unity in our family. Even on Monday, I met Abhay at our Sirsa house and we shared a meal together and spoke. I appeal to my father Om Prakash Chautala and Abhay to come back.
