NEW DELHI: In a veiled but strong attack against Pakistan, PM Narendra Modi on Sunday asserted that India's move to remove Article 370 has irked the nation which hasn't been able to manage its own country.

Even as he did not name Pakistan ahead of UN General Assembly High Level meet, Modi in his address at the Houston’s Howdy Modi event noted, "It is a breeding ground for terrorism. Be it 9/11 attack in USA or 26/11 attack in Mumbai, the perpetrators of the acts have been found in that one country” He also pointed out that the time has come to take a tough stand against the terrorism.

US President Donald Trump along with key Congressmen were in audience when Modi made these comments against Pak-sponsored terror.

Time for a decisive battle against terrorism has come, Modi asserted as he defended revoking Jammu and Kashmir's special status.

Addressing over 50,000 Indian-Americans at the 'Howdy, Modi' event in Houston, he said India has given farewell to Article 370, which allowed terrorism and separatism to rear its head in Jammu and Kashmir. Modi asked people to give standing ovation to the Indian parliamentarians for Parliament's nod to repeal Article 370 provisions.

"India's decision on Article 370 has troubled some people, who can't handle their country, who support terrorism," the prime minister said.

Modi also praised India's democracy and said Indians are working day and night to realise its goal of new India.

Focusing on measures enacted by his government, Modi told audience "We are competing with ourselves…We are challenging ourselves. We are changing ourselves and that is why we are on the path of development," he says. "We are aiming high. We are achieving higher.”

"First time in 60 years has it happened that a majority government came back to power in the second term with more vote share.”

Referring to India’s prowess in the digital technology, Modi informed "If data is available at affordable prices anywhere in the world, it is India. One GB data in India is available at nearly 25 cents. This has been possible under Digital India. From e-governance to income tax returns, cheap data has brought convenience to the people in India, the PM recalled.

With American lawmakers in audience and addressing larger American civil society and media Modi gave a glimpse of diversity of India's culture when he said "everything is fine" in several India languages like Gujarati, Bengali, Marathi, Malayalam. "Diversity is unity. This diversity is the core of India's vibrant democracy.” He also hailed different languages spoken in India amid controversy over imposition of Hindi across India.

"On October 2, India will bid farewell to open defecation," announced Modi as part of several farewells that his government has given to various practices and laws.
