NEW DELHI: Former Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar did not turn up at the CBI office on Monday to join the probe into the Saradha chit-fund scam.

The investigative agency had directed Kumar to present himself before its officials at the Kolkata office by 2 pm. On Saturday too, he had chosen not to appear before the CBI.

CBI officials on Monday went to the West Bengal secretariat and handed over a letter to the director general of police of West Bengal, with a direction for Kumar to appear before the agency. A CBI team had visited the secretariat on Sunday as well.

According to the agency, Kumar was deliberately evading investigators probing the alleged scandal.

On Friday, the Kolkata High Court vacated the protection from arrest given to Kumar.
