The net result of the two press conferences by Devendra Phadnavis, till recently the BJP chief minister of Maharashtra, and Uddhav Thackeray, leader of the Shiv Sena, is that the alliance between the two parties has fractured, throwing government formation in the state in disarray.
Giving the state a Sena Chief Minister was a promise I made to my father (the late Bal Thackeray). We don't need the support of the BJP, Shah or Fadnavis for achieving that.
Uddhav Thackeray will respond to Fadnavis allegations at 6.30 pm
Sanjay Raut: If Fadnavis says the BJP will form the next govt , then I wish him luck. From our side, I will say we too can form the govt and install our CM.
Sanjay Raut is now talking to reporters. Says there have been no personal attacks by the Sena on PM Modi or HM Shah. That's a wrong statement.
Fadnavis: Whichever govt comes to power, the BJP will lead it.
Fadnavis: I challenge openly those who allege poaching by us - come out with evidence. That is not my style.
Fadnavis says the governor has asked him to continue as acting CM till an alternative arrangement is made. No new decisions will be taken. What is happening today is a complete disrespect of the mandate of the people of Maharashtra, he adds.
Fadnavis on Amit Shah not coming for meet with Sena: He will come after talks are initiated, however what is the point of talking when the Sena is claiming that they are talking to the Congress and NCP.
Fadnavis: We never spoke ill against Balasaheb Thackeray or even against Uddhavji even when we fought separately. The kind of statements they were making against out top leader , PM Modi, the tone and words are unfortunate and unacceptable.
Fadanavis: This is not the tone one adopts when we have to work together in a govt.
Fadnavis: From day one the Sena's statements were about their options being open. While we are trying to talk to them, the Sena was talking to rival party leaders like Congress and NCP. Sometimes they have met thrice in a day.
Fadnavis: Shiv Sena is 100% responsible for the impasse. I am a leader of a party, and I am the CM. I called Uddhav personally, however my call was not taken.
Fadnavis: I asked our party president Amit Shah whether such a decision was taken in my absence. He said such a proposal had come, but there was no decision taken.
Fadnavis: We fought together as an alliance under the leadership of Modiji.. The statements that have come in over the last 15 days don't do well to an alliance. As for the issue of rotational CM, the whole issue of CM for 2.5 years. I was part of the talks throughout . In front of me was this never discussed or a decision taken. I make it clear.
Fadnavis: People gave full majority to our pre-poll alliance. People showed their confidence in us. BJP emerged the single largest party. Our strike rate improved by 75%. It was a gift by the people of Maharashtra for our work.
Fadnavis: In the last 5 years my administration worked tremendously in the fields of metro, airport, infrastructure. We revived several projects. Cities and villages witnessed development. We stood with farmers at times of distress
Fadnavis: I thank PM Modi, party president Amit Shah, all top leaders of the party. And all those who worked with me.
Fadnavis is now holding a press conference. Says the governor has accepted his resignation.
Devendra Fadnavis has met the governor and tendered his resignation as chief minister.
Our only goal is to ensure that the chief minister is from Shiv Sena. There is no question of negotiations on this. Even if there is a disruption of some sorts the decision taken by party chief Uddhav Thackeray will be final.

To avoid harassment, some MLAs have gone out (of Mumbai). Legislators have told us that they are being given proposals to defect from the party.
- State Congress president Balasaheb Thorat
Sharad Pawar: The governor, I feel, will call the single largest party in a day or two.
Sharad Pawar: The BJP and Shiv Sena have a clear cut mandate to rule. I don't understand why they are avoiding it. This is causing instability. This is affecting the people, the state's economy. I will suggest to the two parties that they should have a common understanding and form a govt.
Sharad Pawar: The governor should call the single largest party to form the govt. I don't know why the governor is not doing it
