    MEAs key neighbourhood divisions get new heads

    The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA)’s key divisions — Pakistan-Afghanistan-Iran (PAI) and Northern (Nepal & Bhutan) have new heads following appointment of incumbents as Ambassadors.

    JP Singh, 2002 batch IFS, who have extensive experience in dealing with Af-Pak region, is the new Joint Secretary incharge of PAI division. A Russian speaker, Singh had served as Deputy High Comissioner in Pakistan and Consul General in Istanbul. He was earlier posted in Kabul as well.

    The Northern division which deals with India’s key neighbours Nepal and Bhutan will now be headed by Arindam Bagchi who served as Ambassador to Croatia. Bagchi had earlier served in PMO and was Deputy High Commissioner in Sri Lanka thereby giving him wide ranging experience of dealing with neighbourhood. Bagchi is from 1995 batch of IFS.
