GUWAHATI: NIA on Monday questioned IIT Guwahati professor Arupjyoti Saikia in connection with a case relating to peasant leader Akhil Gogoi. Gogoi and three of his colleagues from Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti are in judicial custody for over a month.

NIA officials told ET: “Environmental historian Saikia was questioned for his role in assisting Akhil, who has been setting up bases for Maoists taking advantage of the anti-CAA protests since last December.”

Saikia was first called for questioning on Saturday. Several academicians have issued a statement condemning his questioning.
