Postage stamp to celebrate Ayushman Bharat's Ist anniversary

In the revamped package, specific drug regimen would decide the package.
NEW DELHI: As the Centre’s flagship programme Ayushman Bharat completes a year, the Centre has planned key initiatives for first anniversary celebrations. A complete revamp of medical packages, improved patient care, brainstorming two-day convention with state health ministers to chart out the course ahead and a special postage stamp release by Prime Minister Narendra Modi have been lined up.

The National Health Authority (NHA), the nodal agency for implementation of Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (PM-JAY) or Ayushman Bharat, is likely to unveil its new medical packages this week after a governing body meeting on Wednesday. With this the government would address a long-standing demand of hospitals and medical practitioners since the scheme was launched in September 2018.

Apart from rationalising the costing of packages (which govern the amount reimbursed by government to hospitals for treating Ayushman beneficiaries), the revamped programme would impact patient care, especially in implants and cancer care. At present, the course of cancer treatment and the medical package depended on location of cancer (site of cancer like lung or breast).

In the revamped package, specific drug regimen would decide the package. The much-awaited revamp of medical packages would be followed by a two-day convention “Gyan Sangam”on September 29 and 30.
