NEW DELHI: A special CBI court on Thursday sent Ratul Puri, nephew of MP CM Kamal Nath, to six days of Enforcement Directorate custody in a money laundering case. ED had sought 14 days’ custody for his alleged involvement in the VVIP chopper scam.

ED told the court that accusedturned-approver Rajiv Saxena “received €948,862 from Global Services FZE”, a company belonging to Christian Michel, a co-accused in the case. ED claimed in its remand paper that investigation has revealed that “M/s Technostone Ltd, M/s Trade Service Agency, M/s Hendon Global Ltd, M/s Prodexco Iberia Ltd and M/s Melleger Ltd belong to/aremaintained/ used for the benefit of Ratul Puri and these companies are in receipt of proceeds of crime amounting to €704,134.57 and US $150,000 from M/s Interstellar Technologies Ltd, Mauritius”.

ED has alleged that Puri sent instructions to Saxena to deal with funds of some of these companies. The agency claimed Puri was giving transfer instructions from email accounts “ratul.puri@hpppl.in, nokiasamsung35@yahoo.co.uk and nokiasamsung35@yahoo.com”.

ED claimed Puri used shell companies in others’ name and accumulated crime proceeds which were parked and laundered for desired beneficiaries, including Puri himself. Puri’s lawyers sought his immediate release alleging his arrest was illegal. Puri has denied any association with the chopper scam.
